We finished our morning tour at Blackwell. It is a turn of the twentieth century house built for a wealthy Manchester merchant as his holiday home. It is decorated in the Arts and Crafts style and is one of the finest Arts and Crafts homes surviving.
We had tea and scones on the terrace and enjoyed the sunshine and the view.
It was our last morning in the Lake District. We went back to Meadowcroft and packed our bags, returning to Liverpool at about 2 o’clock.
Over the next couple of days the weather changed and we have had steady wind and rain since we returned. We timed our trip perfectly and were very lucky with the glorious weather.
