On our last night in New Zealand we stayed in a town called Tauranga and had dinner at the Harbourside Restaurant. 

It’s tucked under the railway bridge at the end of a jetty – it used to be the yacht club. Our table overlooked the harbour. We started with nice drinks – Mark had a champagne and I had a martini.


For entree we shared the tasting plate which had all sorts of goodies including lamb, sirloin steak on a dollop or creamy mashed potato, deep fried oysters and a tasty salad.


Then I had the free range chicken breast roasted in honey thyme butter on smoked chorizo risotto. It was tender and juicy.

Mark had the twice cooked lamb shanks with rosemary honey roasted root vegetables and a rich port jus. He enjoyed them.

We had a bottle of New Zealand white. Are my photos getting blurrier? For dessert I had a layered lime and lemon cheesecake with saffron syrup and caramelised orange compote, and Mark had the creme brulee with espresso gelato and pistachio praline.


 We finished with coffee and I had a nice Courvoisier cognac – delightfully warmed in a big balloon glass.

We didn’t quite stagger home, but then we had to finish off a nice Mission Estate Botrytis Dessert Wine back at the Kingsview Resort apartment as we would be flying the next day and couldn’t have suitcases that were too heavy.


We slept well.
